“The 80-year-old Allen creates a ravishing romance shot through with humour and heartbreak.” – Rolling Stone
About the Film
For the 46th feature of his illustrious career as a director, Woody Allen returns to the ‘30s with a trademark fusion of New York nightlife and Hollywood grandeur. Bobby (Jesse Eisenberg), is a Bronx-native who decides to roll the dice in Los Angeles through his singular industry connection, his uncle and high-powered agent Phil (Steve Carell). It’s through this arrangement that Bobby meets Vonnie (Kristen Stewart) – Phil’s charming assistant who is all but off the market – for now. With an art deco aesthetic and with the keys of emotion played to perfection, Café Society is a gorgeously shot late-period piece with nuanced performances and meticulously crafted dialogue. It’s peak Allen, really.
